What is Relending?

Relending, as implemented by Varuna, represents a novel mechanism within the decentralized finance (DeFi) landscape, offering users the opportunity to leverage assets that are already pledged as collateral on other platforms. This innovative approach addresses the challenge of asset underutilization and liquidity constraints prevalent in traditional lending models.

How Relending Works

Varuna's relending mechanism allows users to effectively unlock the value of their collateralized assets by utilizing them in relending activities. Here's how it works:

  1. Lock Collateral Assets: Users pledge their assets as collateral on other platforms, securing loans or participating in other financial activities.

  2. Engage in Relending or Provide Liquidity: Instead of leaving these collateral assets idle, users have the option to lock them within Varuna's platform and engage in relending activities. Alternatively, users can choose to provide liquidity to the platform, thereby enabling others to engage in relending activities.

  3. Reuse and Liquidity of Assets: By participating in relending activities or providing liquidity, users contribute to the reuse and liquidity of collateralized assets. This not only optimizes the utilization of assets but also enhances overall liquidity in the ecosystem.
